The only priority we have going forward is we must have serious, substantive conversations how to create an atmosphere to diversify our economy. Alaska will never be able to get to the next level of economic stability until we diversify our economy so we are not wholly dependent on the fossil fuel industry. This industry provides products which have had a consistent history of substantial fluctuation. Unless we want a boom and bust economy every 10 years, we need to start thinking and acting different. The status quo ensures status quo results. We deserve better.
Citizens of Alaska need to be directly involved in these discussions not merely spectators.
I will encourage an active dialogue on ideas, way and means we can begin encouragement of developing other industries which will help us diversify.
